We have heard serious reports of unethical recruitment practices, including excessive contract termination penalties, coercive employment agreements, and financial exploitation. This statement restates where PNAA stands. We condemn illegal recruitment, labor exploitation, and human trafficking. We also affirm that ethical recruitment is a shared responsibility of nurses, recruiters, and employers.
I ask each chapter to:
• Share this statement with your members, especially newly arrived and internationally educated nurses.
• Strengthen orientation and education on employment contracts, workplace rights and responsibilities, and where to find help.
• Use appropriate due diligence with current and prospective recruitment and staffing partners, and assess concerns fairly and objectively.
Thank you to the many chapters already doing this important work. Your mentorship and support make a real difference for nurses beginning their careers in the United States.
Nurses who believe they have experienced predatory recruitment, coercion, or labor exploitation may contact me directly at infomypnaa@gmail.com. Every message will be received with sensitivity and discretion.
Thank you for your continued commitment to protecting and empowering our nurses. #PNAA
